The Tumblr!Fandom Family 

As a multi-fandom blog, I come across a lot of posts regarding fandom superlatives. “We’re the ones who waited”, “we’re the nicest”, “we’re the crackiest” (all comments made by Sherlockians, oddly enough) — but in my experience, they’re never very accurate. If I had to give each fandom a Tumblr description, it would look more like this—

DOCTOR WHO

The cleverest, kindest and oldest of the siblings. Doctor Who is trans* (uses masculine pronouns, but doesn’t really care), panromantic and has been in more relationships than the rest of the family combined. He’s a bit bi-polar — some days he adamantly hates a part of himself, but never other people. He’s very generous and loves his siblings, regardless of how psychotic they can be. DW is the baby-sitter, the one who looks after the other kids when the parents are away. He’s so sweet that he even shares his toys, and takes the other kids out joy-riding in his TARDIS.

LORD OF THE RINGS

The second oldest, and by far most pretentious of all the siblings. She reads and attends lectures and studies dead languages, because it’s classy. LOTR likes to think that she’s the smartest one in her family, but she’s really just a bit of a prat. Don’t get me wrong — she’s very nice to other people, because she thinks it’s the right thing to do, but don’t question her judgement on anything. As far as LOTR is concerned, she’s never wrong. Her biggest problem right now is that her youngest sibling, Sherlock, keeps drooling all over her autographed first edition of The Hobbit. 

HARRY POTTER

Harry… well, believe it or not, Harry’s the normal one. He’s the dead-centre middle sibling that everybody likes and everyone wants to talk to. He can be a little crazy — he gets insensibly emotional over the littlest things (don’t use the word ‘always’ around him; he’ll cry for days) — but he’s a nice guy. Harry’s the one that all the other siblings come running to for personality advice. His only problem is that people keep trying to compare him to LOTR — or worse, their psychotic sparkling next-door neighbour, Twilight — to see who’s the best. But the thing is… Harry doesn’t fucking care. He knows he’s in a family of champions, and that’s enough for him.

SUPERNATURAL

Although the Supernatural brothers (yes, brothers — twins, to be precise) are actually the second youngest, they seem quite a bit older. They tend to overshadow everyone in the family because they’re disgustingly good-looking. I’m not even kidding — these boys could melt the hearts of frost giants with their pretty faces. They’re unbelievably popular, and charismatic, and a little bit stupid, but everyone forgives them for it because they’re hardcore fetishists — and that’s awesome. They’re particularly fond of leather, wings, incest and roleplaying — but honestly, they’ll try anything. The thing is… for all their awesomeness (and they are, honestly), they never stop bickering. The only time they stop trying to kill each other is when they team up to tear down someone else (or to fuck — but they fight a lot during that, too). 

BBC!SHERLOCK

Ah, the youngest child… Sherlock is the hormonal, creepy little sibling who chews on everything. Genderless and asexual (or possibly hypersexual — it’s too early to tell), Sherlock spends every day rolling around on the floor in an over-sized jumper, playing with its dinosaur toys. It’s cute and funny… in a completely psychotic way. The rest of the family grudgingly admits that Sherlock is by far the most creative of all the siblings, but tries not to get too involved in its shenanigans. LOTR claims that Sherlock recently tried to strangle her to death with a blue scarf — but it has yet to be proven. (It probably never will… no one ever gets to Sherlock.)
